Welcome to Grassroots Client News !
As a client of Grassroots.org you are receiving
this monthly newsletter to keep you informed of the
latest news with Grassroots Client Services and other issues
related to operating your nonprofit organization.
We also publish a consumer-oriented newsletter called
Grassroots News. You can sign up for Grassroots News at
http://www.grassroots.org.
E-Mail Accounts
Included with your free web hosting account are 5 free
mailboxes for sending and receiving e-mail. This will allow
you to setup users with e-mail addresses using your
organization's own domain name. (For example, you could use
johndoe@grassroots.org instead of having to use
johndoe@aol.com or johndoe@yahoo.com.) These e-mail
accounts can then be used with Outlook or any other e-mail
software that can is compatible with POPmail accounts.
If you have more than 5 individuals (employees, volunteers,
etc.) that need e-mail access, additional mailboxes are
available for $1/mailbox per month or $25/month for an
unlimited number of mailboxes.
Remember that if you are using another e-mail account you
will want to move your newsletter and mailing list
subscriptions (such as Grassroots Client News) to your new
e-mail address.
If you need additional services or require technical help
with your hosting account, just e-mail TierraNet at
support@tierra.net or call (877) TIERRA-1.
Software Resource: Tucows
The budgets of many nonprofit organizations make it
difficult to afford the latest versions of commercial
software applications. Last month we told you about
TechSoup (http://www.TechSoup.org) which allows you to
purchase commercial software at a discount with proof of
your nonprofit status.
An alternative to commercial software is shareware. With
shareware you can try the software for free for a period of
time and then pay if you want to continue to use it. One of
the oldest distributors of shareware is Tucows
(http://www.tucows.com). There you can download many quality
software titles, including business applications, systems
utilities, Internet applications, multimedia tools and
games.
Stop SPAM Today
TechSoup.org and Mailshell are teaming up to sponsor the
2nd annual "Stop Spam Today!" campaign from November 9
through December 15. This five-week educational campaign
created just for the nonprofit community culminates on
December 15, when nonprofit organizations can order free
anti-spam software from Mailshell.
For more information go to http://www.stopspamtoday.org.
